The Orkli cooperative, a member of MONDRAGON, has been shortlisted for the PERTE VEC (Electric and Connected Vehicle) programme, funded by the European Next Generation EU fund. As part of this initiative, the company will receive a grant of €8 million to support an ambitious investment plan worth €54 million over the next five years.

This plan will enable the launch and development of the BELCOR product range, designed to ensure safer working conditions by reducing the risks associated with battery use, a key area in the context of electrification and the energy transition.

The planned investments at the Ordizia plant will also have a significant impact on the region’s socio-economic environment, enabling the creation of at least 100 new jobs by the end of the project’s implementation period.

The project’s development is being monitored by the MONDRAGON Corporation, which is backing the initiative through its internal support and promotion mechanisms, thereby reinforcing its commitment to industrial innovation, sustainability and the creation of quality jobs.

What is BELCOR

The BELCOR initiative is jointly led by ORKLI S. Coop. and the German company BELCHEM GmbH, consolidating an international partnership that will contribute to the development of innovative safety solutions for battery-based systems.

In this context, BELCOR has already received requests from car manufacturers to supply safety elements for battery cells. These solutions are designed to prevent adverse thermal events and help extend the service life of the cells themselves, providing key added value in the development of safer and more durable electric vehicles.

In addition to the interest shown by leading European-based automotive manufacturers, the BELCOR initiative is attracting growing attention from Asian brands with plans to enter the European market, which reinforces its international positioning and growth potential.

This initiative forms part of European efforts to strengthen the electric vehicle value chain and move towards a more competitive, safe and sustainable industrial model
