Mondragon University and Orbik Cybersecurity are driving forward industrial cybersecurity

The Faculty of Engineering at Mondragon Unibertsitatea and Orbik Cybersecurity have signed a collaboration agreement to launch a programme aimed at developing joint R&D projects, strengthening knowledge transfer and training staff specialising in cybersecurity.

The agreement, which will run for four years, will help to generate knowledge, develop innovative technologies and train specialist talent to address the digital security challenges facing the industry.

Through this initiative, both organisations will set up joint working groups comprising professionals from Orbik Cybersecurity, research and teaching staff from Mondragon Unibertsitatea, as well as undergraduate, master’s and PhD students. The aim is to foster close collaboration between the university and the company, thereby accelerating technology transfer and facilitating the integration of highly qualified professionals into the business sector. 

The agreement forms part of both organisations’ strategic commitment to driving innovation, technological development and the cultivation of specialised talent. The partnership will strengthen the recruitment and training of highly qualified professionals in cybersecurity, a key area for supporting the organisation’s future development and meeting the industry’s growing needs.

The aim is to foster close collaboration between the university and the company, thereby accelerating technology transfer and facilitating the integration of highly qualified professionals into the business sector. 

Areas of focus

The priority areas of focus set out in the agreement include: industrial cybersecurity, software security, networks and systems; artificial intelligence applied to cybersecurity; and software testing. These areas will serve as the basis for the development of industrial research projects, technology demonstrators, technology watch activities, training programmes and talent development initiatives.

As part of the agreement, both organisations will draw up a four-year technology roadmap to identify and prioritise research areas with the greatest potential impact on the industrial and business ecosystem.

The collaboration also aims to promote academic practices, undergraduate and master’s dissertations, doctoral theses, and other initiatives designed to expose students to real-world innovation environments and facilitate their entry into the labour market.
