Kide, Mondragon Unibertsitatea and Esneki (Leartiker): a new example of inter-cooperation in MONDRAGON

The industrial cooperative, the university and the technology centre have developed a project aimed at manufacturing a ripening chamber for small cheese dairies and cheese producers. The result has been a resounding success.

Kide, Mondragon Unibertsitatea and Esneki, Leartiker’s dairy research centre, began their collaboration around a year ago with the aim of developing and creating a maturing chamber designed for a very specific audience. “We are interested in small and medium-sized cheese producers – the small-scale cheese-making businesses that are so common in our region,” say the project’s leaders.

“Being part of the MONDRAGON Corporation has made this project easier. We speak the same language and share the same values. Everything that unites us is reflected in the final product.”

Malen Sarasua, from Esneki; Ismael Cortes, from Kide; and David Alonso de Mezquia, a researcher at Mondragon Unibertsitatea, are the faces and voices behind this success story. “Kide was looking for partners such as Esneki, from the Leartiker technology centre, which knows the product, and Mondragon Unibertsitatea, which is helping by simulating the environmental conditions required inside the chamber”, and this inter-cooperation has borne fruit.

For Alonso de Mezquía, there has been complete understanding: “Being organisations belonging to MONDRAGON has facilitated the project. We speak the same language and share the same values. Everything that unites us has been reflected in the final product.” A new ripening chamber that will soon be distributed to small-scale producers, both in the Basque Country and abroad.
