After two years of waiting, the great trade fair event for the machine tool and advanced manufacturing sector celebrates its 31st edition at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre, and Ikerlan is back in style with a spectacular 144 m2 dynamic stand that simulates a digital and sustainable factory. The technology centre is showcasing its knowledge transfer capacity and the competitive value it brings to companies in the sector, with an extensive programme of technology breakfasts and lunches, with the aim of mapping out the specific needs of the sector and the catalogue of solutions that the centre is already developing in the machine tool sector.

Therefore, during the 14th, 15th and 16th  of June, from 10 to 11 a.m. and from 12:30 to 14:30 p.m., the Ikerlan stand will be the setting for different presentations that will deal with success stories and key technological aspects for the digital factory of the future, such as automation and robotics, digital twins or collaborative artificial intelligence.

There will also be room for topics of interest for the sustainable factory of the future such as industrial energy communities, energy efficiency and the improvement of quality and processes.

On the other hand, experts from Ikerlan's client companies (including Aldakin, Mercedes-Benz and Multiverse) together with research staff from the centre will present successful cases of collaboration in HAZITEK and European projects.

Like the industry as a whole, attracting, training and retaining talent are some of the challenges facing the technology centre. For this reason, Ikerlan has also reserved a space to offer advice to engineering students during the fair.  On Friday, the stand will be open to university students who want to find out about the professional and training opportunities offered by the centre in different areas.

In addition to its activity, at stand C24 in hall 1, Ikerlan will participate together with LKS Next in the BE DIGITAL event, aimed at the industrial application of digital technologies, and in CYBERCOMMANDER with CYBASQUE (Association of Cybersecurity Industries of the Basque Country) and BCSC (The Basque Cybersecurity Centre) as part of the cybersecurity awareness movement.

Visitors to the stand will be able to get first-hand knowledge of the centre's three proposals aimed at companies in the machine tool sector: IKERLAN KONNEKT, 360 solutions for industrial digitalisation, which places the centre at the forefront of industrial solutions in key technologies such as sensorisation, connectivity, IoT, Cloud computing, BigData and Data analytics, and all with the highest security requirements (cybersecurity and safety); IKERLAN MECH, solutions for developing reliable and sustainable mechatronic products, which combines applied mechanics, control, monitoring and intelligent asset management technologies, and IKERLAN ENERGY, the centre's technological offer for energy management, transformation, control and storage, based on solutions adapted to the specific needs of each application, which allow highly efficient and intelligent, compact, robust and durable solutions to be developed, capable of offering all the features that companies need in their applications.

Consolidation as a technology transfer centre for companies

Ikerlan recently published its 2021 results balance sheet, which showed the positioning and recognition by the industrial fabric (including SMEs) of the centre in its technology transfer area. Last year, this segment grew by 12,5 % compared to 2020, reaching 12,4 million euros in revenue from transfer activities – 1,5 million euros more than in 2020 - with companies in cutting-edge fields such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, robotics and industrial automation or electrical energy storage. This figure represents 50 % of its global turnover. Thus, Ikerlan continues to consolidate itself as a benchmark in technology transfer to companies, an identity that forms part of its vocation as a centre and is one of its main hallmarks.
