Bexen Cardio protects Madrid’s heart health with 2,200 defibrillators permanently deployed throughout the city

Bexen Cardio, a MONDRAGON cooperative, has supplied, is installing and will maintain for five years the 2,200 defibrillators that will be fitted to all EMT Madrid municipal buses, creating one of the largest mobile cardiac protection networks in Europe.

A mobile network to save lives

This morning, the Palacio de Cibeles hosted the presentation of the project that will make Madrid a leader in cardiac protection within public transport. Bexen Cardio will be responsible for the supply, installation and maintenance of the 2,200 automated external defibrillators (AEDs) that will be fitted to the entire EMT Madrid fleet. The roll-out of the equipment has already begun and will be completed this coming October.

Technology at the service of people

As part of the MONDRAGON Corporation and the only domestic manufacturer of defibrillators, Bexen Cardio will provide a comprehensive solution that includes the supply of Reanibex 100 devices, their installation, maintenance and remote monitoring for five years.

The managing director of Bexen Cardio, Digna González, emphasises that the cooperative “is proud to be part of a project that brings cardiac protection into the daily lives of thousands of people”. She also stresses that, as the only Spanish manufacturer of defibrillators, Bexen Cardio provides “a solution that is accessible and tailored to the needs of EMT Madrid, designed to help save lives when every minute counts”.

The Reanibex 100 has been designed to be used easily and intuitively by anyone, even those without medical training. The device guides the user step by step via voice instructions, incorporates features to ensure high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and, when removed from its stand, automatically triggers an alert to 112, facilitating a rapid and coordinated response from the emergency services.

One of the project’s key distinguishing features is the connected cardiac protection solution developed by Bexen Cardio, which will enable real-time, round-the-clock monitoring of the operational status of the 2,200 defibrillators installed across the fleet. This continuous monitoring will allow any incidents to be detected and resolved swiftly, ensuring that the equipment is always available when needed.

During the event, a demonstration was also given of how the Reanibex 100 works and of the monitoring platform developed by the cooperative.

MONDRAGON’s presence

The event was presided over by the Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, accompanied by the Councillor for Urban Planning, Environment and Mobility, Borja Carabante, and the Chief Executive of EMT Madrid, Alfonso Sánchez. Representing MONDRAGON were the Vice-President, Javier Amézaga, and the Director of Institutional Relations, Ramón Gómez Ugalde; as well as the Managing Director of Bexen Cardio, Digna González.

Amézaga emphasises that “MONDRAGON develops advanced technology to serve people, generating a positive impact on society”, and points out that initiatives such as this reflect the cooperatives’ ability to respond to real needs through innovative solutions. He also highlights Bexen Cardio’s contribution to strengthening Madrid’s cardiac protection through its public transport system and congratulates the City Council on promoting “a pioneering initiative that will help save lives”.
